HERE WE HAVE THE latest in the ongoing series of Sims 2 expansions, and here I am again to review it. Every three months it seems we get another little addition to our micro people's lives, but this latest you will find is a little different from the previous packs, and not in a good way.
First off, be aware it's not really an expansion. While the previous expansions included a wealth of new content, game mechanics and play modes, this pack includes just a bunch of new doodads for your house. That is, while Open for Business allowed you to start up a shop, Night Life allowed you to grab a car and have dates, and University allowed you to experience the life of hostels and maddening assignments, all the Family Fun pack does is allow you to re-skin your wallpaper or decorate your children's rooms. Oh, and you have lots of different sets of pajamas for your younger Sims to parade around in and look like idiots.
So… putting this assertion in view, that this is not so much an "Expansion" as a "Content Pack", we can safely proceed to analyzing the content given itself. And it's not so bad. As mentioned, the pajamas look pretty lame, but perhaps in a cute kind of way. There are hundreds of different styles that can be used to theme your bedrooms, from 'princesses' to 'underwater', and these themes are well created and look stunning. So if you are dying to modify the appearance of your young Sims' homes then, congratulations my friend! The answer is here!
However in some other areas the new content is not so good. For example, some of the wallpaper styles look like they took five minutes to be put together, and appear pretty bland (so it was a wasted five minutes). However, in real life plenty of wallpapers are also bland (from where I'm sitting, the wallpaper is the colour of stale lemon cream) so perhaps this part of the expansion is just an attempt to bring the Sims closer to reality.
All in all there is not much more to say about it. The family fun expansion is just a collection of stuff to broaden your choice in your Sims' house decoration. Basically it's an official representation of the unofficial mod community, but with substantially less innovative and only a slightly more polished finish. If you are a diehard Sims player or a simpering mother-figure, then this expansion might be worth the extra cash. But if not then stay away, because you're not missing anything.
