MOTOR RACING IS QUICKLY becoming a top selling genre in today's gamming industry, with series such as Need for Speed and the Burnout leading the way. Ford Mustang: The Legends Lives is not quite in the same category, but nonetheless, it is a racing game and will be an experience and will see many Ford enthusiasts droll with envy.
Ford Mustang: The Legends Lives has three modes to choose from: Arcade, Career and Challenge. It has over 40 production, concept and racing models to choose from. The Mustangs have been accurately modelled to reflect Mustangs that were built since their inception in 1964. It also includes concept Mustangs that did not quite make the production line, but laid the foundation for its successor. Like many racing games you are set with predefined models to choose from, and then have to unlock the rest through winning races. Races run through 22 tracks across 7 cities within the US.
The game itself is very basic and takes gaming back to the original days of….well….. just plain racing. Although in career mode it does spice it up slightly, it does not really take it to the next level of racing that is seen in most of today's gaming.
Gameplay is average with handling pretty much similar to most of the Mustangs gained. If you hit walls, cars or anything you come into contact with, all that happens is you bounce off - no damaged is caused - you lose a few points, then you're on your way. Because of this you don't really get a feel and/or get to appreciate the power and speed of the Mustang.
Ford Mustang: The Legends Lives does not do the Mustangs themselves any justice, in fact it pretty much makes it feel like your everyday car. Don't get me wrong, the Mustangs are well crafted streamlined machines, but pure looks fail to lift it out of the "just another racing game" category. It lacks the power, speed and drawing power that is required to draw the gamer in, and to appreciate the legend of the Mustang. |
