Spy Vs. Spy

By (12 June 2005)

Summary
Spy Vs. Spy

Ups: Great character animation and sound, wonderfully developed maps and level detail. The puzzles and gadgets are zany and fun for all levels not to mention the mod-a-spy customisation option.

Downs: Some of the objectives can become a little drawn out and the objectives can become confusing to follow. It is also a little frustrating that you cant manually save your progress during the game.

Bottom Line: Spy vs. Spy is great fun for almost everyone in the family and MAD fans will definitely enjoy the touches of zany, whacky humour that is typical of everything MAD. A great time at the console to be had by all - watch that clown suit though. It has hidden explosives!

Overall rating: 3.5 out of 5 fists   Very Good

IF YOU'RE AT ALL familiar with MAD magazine, you will certainly enjoy Spy vs. Spy. MAD and Take 2 has teamed up to bring us this whacky yet entertaining action game to our consoles. This latest release of Spy vs. Spy is based on the original classic Spy vs. Spy game developed by First Star Software.

Spy vs. Spy is a game worth playing if you like to spend your game time outwitting your opponent at every turn. If that doesn't work, you might enjoy maiming, blowing up or shooting at your opponent even more. Spy vs. Spy gives you the opportunity to do all of these things whilst trying to complete missions and objectives along the way. There are also two modes of play for Spy vs. Spy – Story mode for single player and Modern mode for single player or multiplayer. Both are equally challenging and equally as fun to play. And you can even get to customise how your spy looks with the crazy mod-a-spy option. A feature not to be missed, dressing up was never this much fun.

One of the interesting things about Spy vs. Spy is that your opponent is able to do all of the things that you can do including shooting at you in a shooting gallery, trapping you with bombs or killing you with a Tommy gun. The tricky thing is getting hold of the arsenal of weapons and gadgets so that you can ensure you have your opponent well and truly beaten (or killed, whichever comes first).

During the game you will have many opportunities to pick up upgrades for your weapons and gadgets to help you progress through the puzzles and traps but to do this, you need to collect the hard cash. The money tends to get dropped when you kill something that you encounter but there is a time limit, so you need to scramble around to collect it as quickly as possible.
