Spy Vs. Spy

(continued)

An important part of playing Spy vs. Spy is in knowing how to read the icons displayed on your screen. This is where the manual comes in very handy. It's strongly recommended that you become familiar with the different icons and what they mean. For instance, the telegram icon in the top left hand corner indicates that an incoming message is being sent to your spy. These message are important clues to help you progress through to the next stage. Another important icon to recognise is the magnifying glass which tells you that your spy needs to do something. You have to hunt around a bit – that's what part of being a spy is all about!

The animation in Spy vs. Spy is well done and the nifty background music definitely adds to the slightly zany but humorous atmosphere of the game. The people at MAD have definitely added their outlandish touch to the graphics and style of Spy vs. Spy. There are quite a few whacky and entertaining puzzles to challenge your spy as well as some funny encounters with shooting galleries, monkeys on go-carts and of course, the one on one encounter you will have undoubtedly have with the enemy spy. Sling shots never looked so leathal!

Some of the more confusing aspects of game play relate to the way that clues are located through-out each level. Spy vs. Spy is the type of game where you really need to be focused in reaching your objective otherwise you may find the game a little frustrating and difficult to follow.

Gameplay is sequential which means that to complete any objective or task for the level; you must commit your spy to completing all of the tasks in order, one by one. For some players this may prove a tad tedious, especially if you don't manage to locate the clue and/or die in the process. Dying will take you right back to the beginning so it's best to not die a whole lot. There is also the problem of saving the game – you don't really get to do this. The only time the game saves is at the completion of each level.

Some of the clues in the game are obviously located in different areas of the map, and some are a little harder to find. This definitely adds to the challenge of each level as you progress but remember to use the tools that you collect along the way, and refer to the clues you are sent via telegram for additional help.

Spy vs. Spy is really good ol' fashioned fun with a hint of MAD like tendencies and humour. All of these elements make for a rather interesting and fun session at the console.
