'PULL A MUSCLE, AND get ready to tussle!' With quirky little commentary like that, how could you not find The Incredibles fun to play? TI is not a complex game by any stretch of the imagination, and its simplicity is just the thing you could be looking for leading up to the Xmas break. No stress, no mess, just easy peasy gameplay for all of those kids out there looking for a way to stay out of Mum's hair.
Right on target for the movie release of the same name, TI is quite straight-forward in gameplay. Run and jump, kick and punch, climb and stretch - it's your basic 'run around and hit anything that moves' kind of game with a little bit of 'incredibility' thrown in for good measure. Learning to play this game is extremely easy, perhaps too easy. The basic plot of the game allows players to get an opportunity to play each member of the Incredibles. This means that you will need to become accustomed to each of their unique talents and abilities and this aspect of the game is definitely the most enjoyable.
The first level introduces you to Bob Parr, a.k.a. Mr Incredible. This character is probably one of the most enjoyable to play. Moving Mr Incredible around is easy enough and his super incredible strength certainly comes in handy when dealing to the bad guys. Add this to an interesting incredi-jump ability and you're set to finish off the level in true style. The second level, however, isnt so easy. Mrs Incredible, a.k.a. 'Elasti-girl' is kind of tricky to get the hang of. You might want to spend a bit of time getting used to her abilities but it's safe to say that if you spend too much time doing this, you may end up ditching this game for something less frustrating. It's recommended that you take a break if you ever get to this point. The other two members of the Incredibles family are Dash and Violet. Dash has the neat ability to move at super human speeds (think 'The Flash') and Violet can become invisible for short periods of time and also has the ability to surround herself in a force-field.
Each level you encounter is tailored around the member of the family that you're required to play as. Remember this and you shouldnt have any problems getting through it. The overall game introduction is great. Dont worry if you've never played a console game before, TI couldn't be better for novices to pick up. The commentary throughout not only adds comic relief (even if it does get a little annoying after an hour or so) but it also doubles up as a step by step instruction to character movement and functionality. Great for those who are new to console play but could be a tad tedious to those gamers with more experience.
Speaking of commentary, 10 incredi-points if you can name the famous voices behind the animation. Okay, so Samuel L. Jackson's voice wasnt so hard to pick out. What about 'Elasti-girl'? And if you really want to know who the voice is behind Elasti-girl, that belongs to none other than Holly Hunter of The Piano fame.
