Ups: Nice looking, very very original, top-notch platforming fun.

Downs: Perhaps lacking in replayability a little, some of the audio tracks can become irritating.

Bottom Line: A fantastic platform game. Recommended to die-hard fans of the genre and those looking for some serious fun on the Game Boy Advance.

WARIO IS A VERY strange character and Nintendo seem to wheel him out when they want to deliver a platform experience that is a little more out there. Having said that, when the 'straight' man in the Nintendo stable is a plumber who eats mushrooms to make himself bigger and stronger it makes chubby old Wario seem all the more bizzare.
Wario's last outing was on the Game Boy Colour and as Platform games go was extremely well received. This time around Wario has located a hidden pyramid which is packed to the gills with gold and gems just waiting for him to get his grubby hands on. Of course once he gets into the pyramid the doors slam shut and to get out he has to finish off the nasty boss monsters lurking inside to escape. To gain access to the lairs of the boss monsters Wario has to locate four hidden gem pieces in each 'chamber' of the pyramid. Once he has located these he then nabs a character called Keyser (who seems to be a ghost with a key attached to his nose ... don't ask) and opens the portal back out of the chamber. Once the portal is opened Wario has to get back to it before a timer runs out. If the timer hits zero his treasure starts flying out of his pockets and if he runs out of treasure completely it's back to the beginning of that level.
There are a number of different techniques and moves that Wario can employ in his treasure hunting escapade and the game does a great job of gently instructing you on how to use them. The first part of your adventure with Wario occurs in the entry to the pyramid and this level is basic a series of instructional challenges that show you how to pull off the chubby man's moves. He can jump (surprise surprise), roll, charge, punch, crouch and even throw stones.
