Leadfoot - Stadium Off Road Racing

By Matt (27 June 2001)

Summary
Leadfoot - Stadium Off Road Racing

Ups: Career mode; realism; decent graphics.

Downs: Poor sound; low lastibility; several minor issues.

Bottom Line: Arcade racers may find some fun in Leadfoot for a while, but it's real appeal will be noticed by simulation fans.

Overall rating: 3 out of 5 fists   Good

HAVE YOU EVER BEEN playing Need for Speed or Gran Turismo (or any other racing game for that matter) and thought to yourself, "Gee, I wish they'd make a stadium off road version of this game"? Didn't think so. But nevertheless, from Ratbag Games comes Leadfoot: Stadium Off Road Racing.

Leadfoot's graphics are decent – no more, no less. Graphics quality and frame-rate were quite satisfactory, but the review system's GeForce 2 Pro was not pushed to it's limit even in higher resolutions (1024x768 and higher). Leadfoot was left running at 800x600 with full detail which ran quite acceptably. There was a slight jerkiness at 1024x768 with the same detail, but that may be somewhat picky.

The only real graphical issue is the clipping of wheels when you collide with the barrier or another car. But again, that's probably being fussy. Also, static objects such as barriers do not move when hit. This is more of an exclusion by Ratbag than a glitch though.

Sound is quite ordinary, as the only in-game sound is the constant humming of engines, and the occasional sound of metal grinding against metal. Some commentary or in-game music would have been nice for arcade racers, but simulation fans will probably feel right at home. Crowd noise, although somewhat present, is lacking.
