LOCK AND LOAD THE Railgun, prime the Rocket Launcher, and wind up the Chain Gun it's time to frag - Quake style. So have developer Bullfrog done justice to ID's PC masterpiece? Nope. It's crap.
Just kidding. Read on curious gamer.
Bullfrog Studios isn't really known for it's background in First Person Shooters (FPS). Populous, Theme Park and Syndicate are their hallmarks and a very far cry from games like Quake. Why they didn't make the swing sooner is a puzzle as Quake III Revolution for the PS2 is the best shooter yet.
Graphically Q3R is almost absolutely faithful to the PC version. The lighting effects, level design, detail, texturing, animation...all translated with accuracy. Even the much vaunted Beizer curves in the PC version are reproduced well. The PS2 is reported to have the ability to implement the Bezier effect but Q3R doesn't use it. Instead its curves are made up of a great many polygons that look virtually as good.
Only one graphical flaw is seen in-game, and many may not even notice it. There is a slight fuzziness to the whole picture which makes everything just slightly out of focus. The advantage of this is that it also lessens any sharp edges caused by aliasing. Don't worry though, as it's almost invisible unless you're really looking for it.
In FPS's speed is everything, and even with 4 player split screen going hard out the framerate hardly ever takes a hit. An impressive achievement considering the complexity of the game.
