Ups: Fast gameplay and graphics; No slowdown at all; Awesome replays; Accurate racing teams and tracks; Lots of extras to 'win'

Downs: Suffers from aliasing problems; Arcade mode may still be too hard for some beginners.

Bottom Line: A great racing experience that ranks up there with the best of the Formula One games. Sim fans will love it. Arcade fans a little less so. A game well worth getting for racing fans overall.

WHILE RACING SUPERBIKES ISN'T as popular as Rally, or F1 – MotoGP shows good reason for the car racing fans to seriously reconsider their options.
MotoGP comes from Namco – whose previous racing title Ridge Racer 5 was the latest offering in a long line of pure arcade racers. MotoGP breaks from that mould with 5 game modes that include simulation. As its name suggests simulation gives the gamer a much more realistic experience than the arcade mode. Flooring the accelerator while leaning the bike heavily into a corner is much more likely to throw you off the bike than completing the turn. It is not completely realistic though, with rough terrain proving to be a little more forgiving than reality dictates. This does not really detract from the game as those who truly revel in mastering simulation will not be likely to have their bikes off the track.
Arcade on the other hand allows players to do wheelies while taking the hardest corner on full throttle. Bumping into opponents, or nudging trackside barriers does little more than slow you down. There are limits of course. Driving 250 km/h straight into a wall will allow you to feel for a second what it is to be a crash test dummy…Enjoy. There are 10 tracks – with famous real world circuits like Suzuka included in fine detail. Each one is complete with all the detail found on the real thing except for individual cheering fans – that's unfortunately still a brightly colored block sitting within the stands cheering happily as you go by. This is the least of your worries though. If you're going slow enough to admire the view, then you're not playing it right.
