YEAR AFTER YEAR EA Sports release a new addition to the FIFA series with only minor upgrades over the prior version. And, year after year, die-hard soccer fans and many casual gamers head to the nearest store to pick up their copy of the latest edition. Why bother? Well, fortunately for EA Sports, even the most minor revision each year is enough to keep the FIFA series ahead of the pack.
If you have played any previous version of the FIFA series, you'll know what FIFA 2001 is about -- fast gameplay and lots of goals. While this may please some people, others may find it a put-off.
Even so, FIFA 2001 is still an enjoyable, quality game of soccer. Several modes of play are available including friendly, season, tournament, custom and practice. The season mode is where the FIFA series really shines, and FIFA 2001 continues this tradition with all the major international leagues, teams and players. Of course, if your favourite team or player is not in the game, there are various sites around the internet from which they can be downloaded.
A decent array of moves are available, but unfortunately this includes the unstoppable 360° spin which allows opposing players entry to the goalkeeper's box almost every time it is attempted. This move has been present for the last couple of years, and it should be either toned down or abolished altogether.
