Ups: Wonderful visuals and excellent sound effects enhance the overall feel of realism; Accurate automobile models and physics will make you feel as if you are really driving a car; There is so much to do and so many cars, vehicle fanatics will take a long time getting bored over this game.

Downs: The controls are slightly dodgy, but a good player can get used to them with perseverance and practice; Those without a Jump Pack may miss out on the force feedback element that made Gran Turismo so famous; Some of the music is a little tame for a racing game.

Bottom Line: As Sega GT is quite easily the best game of its type (because it's the only game of its type) on Dreamcast, it really is a title you must own if you like racing games.

WE KNOW YOUR TYPE. You didn't happen upon this review by accident did you? You're one of those fellows (or girls as is becoming increasingly more common) who spends half your time with your head under the hood of a car, and the rest of your time burning rubber on the nearest straightaway you can find. Miner birds aren't safe anywhere near you, because you're a speed devil, a breaker of speed limits, and you've probably played Gran Turismo. You're also going to love Sega GT, that is unless the slightly dodgy control system gets the better of you.
Sega GT is quite simply Sega's answer to Sony's Gran Turismo series. The developers have put aside arcade-style racing in favour of realistic car models, physics and mechanics. Along with all this comes an extensive career mode in which the player is required to purchase a second hand car, modify it with money won from races, buy brand new (and far more expensive) cars, and even build an automobile from scratch! You certainly get your moneys worth with this game, there's plenty to do and plenty of cars to choose from.
While this game will rapidly appeal to those gamers who love realistic racing games, on the other side of the coin we have fans of arcade racing titles such as the Ridge Racer series. These fans will mostly likely dislike Sega GT immensely. You can't modify cars to simulate power slides, so don't even try it. For the rest of us this title is easily one of the best racing games ever released for the Dreamcast, that is if you can get used to the controls which are extremely loose at the best of times.
