MAKING THE MOST OF the Xbox Online technology Sega are about to release a multiplayer update to their excellent Sega GT series.

Just in time for the release of Xbox Live! here in New Zealand (Xbox Live! launches December 4th) Sega will be releasing Sega GT Online. This racing game will be a blend of driving simulation and the arcade racing action of Sega GT 2002 with the thrill of world wide multiplayer action.

You won't be able to just pick up this game and drive however, because in a unique twist Sega will challenge you first to obtain your driving licence as well as earn some money to buy modifications for your car. You will be able to fine tune almost every aspect of your car before taking it online and racing it against the rest of the world.

With some 40 new cars added to the existing 165 cars of Sega GT 2002 and the huge array of possible modifications you can expect to see heaps of unique vehicles online to pit your driving skills against. In another first you will also be able to bet on the outcome. Not money, but your car! Another novel idea is the ability to trade car spares and modifications online with other gamers which is very cool.

The official feature list is as follows:

  • Race online in multiple modes, trade parts and cars, and engage in real-time voice chat

  • New offline mode challenges you to complete multiple tasks to unlock new cars, parts, and tracks

  • Transfer your "Sega GT 2002" save data and blow the doors off the competition online with your high-powered customized cars

  • More than 40 new cars ranging from 70's muscle cars to the latest rockets from Japan

  • New tracks, weather effects, and special time-triggered events

  • Newly enhanced for Xbox Live with multiple ways to floss your 'phat ride'
