ALTHOUGH CIVILIZATION III HAS now been out for a couple of years now the soon to be released expansion pack is one that strategy gamers have been dieing to get hold of since it was announced earlier this year. Civilization III with it's new graphic engine and AI was a quantum leap over it's predecessors. It is however a mark of the enduring nature of the Civilization series that despite the time since its original release so many players still come back to play this game. The blend of tough and challenging game play and the players desire to play just one more move mark it as the best strategy game of all time. No wonder then that an expansion pack would generate so much interest.

Civilization III: Conquests will take players on a journey to times in history when events conspired to provide opportunities for truly great leaders to conquer! Will you be able to pick up the challenge of fighting World War II? Intriguing though these new conquest scenarios may be that is not all you can expect in this expansion pack. There will be seven new civilizations each with new units, technologies and leaders. You will now be able to play as Sumerians, the Hittites or the Mayans to just name a few. New terrain elements, wonders, resources, and city improvements round out what looks to be a fantastic expansion pack.

The full feature list:

  • Civilizations - Seven new powerful civilizations from the innovative Sumerians to the mystical Mayans.

  • Units - Use Trebuchets to batter down the enemy's walls or Sumerian Enkidu Warriors to quickly gain military dominance

  • Disasters - Beware the volcanoes, or Pompeii could become your reality

  • Diplomacy - Locked alliances allow good vs. evil conflicts you'll never forget

  • Map Features - Bombard the enemy and leave behind crater

  • Resources - Fight for control over Tobacco, Jade, Bananas, Oasis, Salt, Sugar & Exotic Bird

  • Wonders - Build the Statue of Zeus to really make your troops powerful

  • Governments - Tribal Council, Fascism, Feudalism & Imperialism are just some of the new ways to rule your people

  • More Civ Types - Agricultural & Seafaring as well as re-assigning of ALL civs to fit new civ type

  • Additional City Specialists - Civil Engineer & Police Force

  • More game options - Random World Size & Adjustable AI aggression level

  • More special abilities - Stealth Attack & Enslavement

  • Improvements to the already fantastic AI

  • More interface improvements including - Rally all continent cities, Quick toggling of governor settings, Stack advancements and Message toggles.

  • More interesting game play with - scientific great leaders, modifications to existing Unique Units for better balance, wonder tourism bonuses, World Map with Satellites, marine attack bonus on amphibious assaults, the ability to airlift workers, conquering capital increases chance of cultural conversions, and transportable cruise missiles.

As you can see it is an incredible list! This pack will be without doubt a must buy for Civ III owners when it releases in New Zealand on November 14th. Follow the link below to check out some nice looking screens while we wait.
