THE GREATLY ANTICIPATED FINAL chapter in Peter Jackson's masterpiece is perhaps only equalled here in Gameplanet by the anticipation for EA Games' second Lord of the Rings action adventure game.

All that is good about the movie series can also be said about the wonderful game series. It has stunning visuals, breathtaking action sequences and a fabulous story-line. Like the movie, EA have gone to incredible lengths to conjure up the world of Middle Earth. Early screenshots show some wonderful action scenes that give a taste of some of what we can expect in the movie itself. The game in fact will include some never-before-seen sequences from the Return of the King movie.

Like the movie, your goal will be to destroy the ring by bringing it to the fires of Mount Doom. On you journey you will be able to take multiple paths through playing the role of Gandalf and defend the walls of Minas Tirith, raising the Army of the Dead as Aragorn, Legolas, or Gimli, and with Frodo and Sam, deliver the ring to the fiery depths of Mount Doom.

This time around the game environments will not be just a back-drop to the action but you will be able to interact with objects and utilise them in completing your quests. As well as the hack-and-slash style of The Two Towers, you will be able to utilise catapults, swing from ropes and push boulders onto to your foes.

The multiplayer aspect of the game has also been revamped with players able to work as their own fellowship to complete the quest. It is our bet that this game will be as stunning as the movie and as far as movie-based games go this looks like it is destined to be one of the best ever. EA have worked closely with New Line Studios to deliver what will be an immersive movie experience for gamers.

The feature list includes:

  • Eight playable and secret characters including Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Sam, and Frodo with exclusive voice-over provided by the actual actors from the films.
  • An all-new co-op multiplayer mode will allow players to team up with a companion.
  • Over twelve interactive environments authentically reproduced from the films. Explore the Paths of the Dead, defend Minas Tirith, and battle Sauron's forces at the Pelennor Fields before final confrontations at the Black Gate and the Crack of Doom.
  • Third person action/adventure gameplay that incorporates multiple character paths for each member of the Fellowship.
  • Interactive game enviroment
  • Enhanced control that will allow players to perform multi-directional attacks and combos with ease as they battle their way through the forces of evil.
  • Battle vicious boss monsters including Shelob, the Witch King, and the final showdown with the Dark Lord Sauron.
  • Seamless movie-to-game transitions with never-before-seen exclusive movie footage from the upcoming The Return of the King movie.
  • Immersive musical score composed by Academy Award-winner Howard Shore.

As you can see this game has it all and, like the movie, we can't wait to get our hands and eyes on it.
