Otogi: Myth of Demons

Developer: Sega; Publisher: Sega
Preview by phantom (23 August 2003)

IF YOU THINK OF Sega these days, chances are real good you'll be thinking of re-releases or updates to existing franchises. Keen to cash in on games that might not have gotten enough exposure on their killer (but dead) Dreamcast console, Sega have been in a re-release frenzy, porting pretty much their entire library to PS2 / Xbox / Gamecube. It looks, however, like we might be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel - and if this game is anything to go by, it's not a train!

Otogo: Myth of Demons is an innovative new Action Adventure game, with an RPG flavour stirred into the mix. With more than 30 weapons and 12 different magic attacks, the sprawling and destructable levels combined with the killer variety of bad guys on offer should create a frenetic and exciting mix indeed!

As the character Raiko (an undead warrior), you must stop a ferocious demon army which has been unleashed on the world. Along with the hoards of nasties along the way, enormous boss monsters must be dispatched if you wish to advance the story and get stuck into the next level. Are you up to it?

Check out these features: -

  • 25+ Levels - Deformable levels that show damage after a battle and are packed with hoards of nasties for you to dispatch

  • Killer weapons and magic - Collect and upgrade more than 30 weapons, 12 Magic attacks and more than 10 "special demon slaying items".

  • Deep story - Based on classic Japanese mythology

  • RPG Elements - Improve your character and your weapons, and manage a sophisticate inventory system

Set for release in early September in the States, the game should be arriving in New Zealand shortly after - look for our full review then.
