ROLLERCOASTER TYCOON WAS A great hit on the PC and spawned a full blown sequel and many expansion packs. It's success was not surprising given its great gameplay of Rollercoaster design and the economic challenge of running a park. Now hands up those on the PC who only built coaster designs to see how often the patrons threw up? Yes we thought so! The games formula of seeing how your patrons reacted and interacted with the environment you created made for a very addictive game.

Of particular note was the system of each patron having his own feelings and emotions about your designs and the challenge of altering them to gain the highest amount of revenue from them. Although this high brow aspect is really secondary to the vomit.

In the game you have the challenge of developing your own park from scratch while determining not just the design of the Rollercoaster but other supporting elements of the park. The animation on the PC version was cute as it was entertaining so it will be good to see if the power of the Xbox will take the graphics of the game to another level.

With the game to soon make it's debut on the Xbox in New Zealand it's about to open the Park gates to a whole set of new patrons. So what can you expect?

  • Includes original Roller Coaster Tycoon, Corkscrew Follies and Loopy Landscapes

  • Fun, creative, easy to use, graphically appealing, strategically intense

  • Create entire theme parks in amazing environments like Ice World, Jurassic, Medieval and Martian.

  • 4 roller coaster styles that can be constructed in unlimited configurations

  • Accurate motion dynamics/physics which result in thrilling rides or the ultimate disaster

  • Build with a variety of rides, shops, decorations, landscape and theme options

  • Excitement/Nausea ratings let you design attractions for all "guests"

  • Analyse hundreds of "guest" thoughts and feelings to help manage your park's success

  • Track your financial performance to avoid bankruptcy
Rollercoaster Tycoon will be a fun game to play and one of the first games on the Xbox with a degree of economic modelling and a high level of player interaction. It is an excellent title on the PC and we have no doubt the same will be said when it makes the transition onto the Xbox. We are looking forward to bucket loads of vomit! Check out the screenshots while we wait for the games New Zealand release in the next week or so.
