SPORT OR MONEY?……ENTER THE world of Championship Manager 4. Hire players. Transfer players. Fire players. Doesn't that sound like fun?
This soon to be released latest entry in the Championship Manager series from Sports Interactive and Eidos Interactive looks to be the best in the series yet. Not a sports game but rather a company management simulation built around a sport. This series of games is not about button mashing and flashy graphics but more about absorbing strategic and management game play around the much-loved sport of Soccer (Football for you Poms). At first glance there would not seem to be much of a game in a concept such as this however the fact that it has now reached version 4 in the series (and sold truckloads of copies in the process, even in New Zealand) shows how it has struck a chord with fans of the sport looking for something a bit morelaid back (or not, as may be the case for would be Managers).
What's going to be different in CM4? A heap more detail for one thing. You will be able set up the training regime for your team, there will be an enhanced contract negotiation system, and a totally skinable interface. The feature list looks like this: -
- Brand new 2D match engine allows you to watch your team play.
- View the whole match or just view the highlights.
- Play 39 national leagues, with more than 200,000 players and staff.
- Enhanced Manager features for transfers, tactics, training and coaching.
- Fully skinable interface to personalise your playing experience. Two new skins available at launch with more to follow.
- Exhaustively researched by a global team of scouts to ensure absolute accuracy.
- Developed with tactical advice from former Liverpool and Republic of Ireland star Ray Houghton.
With all the ups and downs of the Football Managers we see from the English press we know there are gamers out there who think they could do a better job. You will soon get your chance with the game scheduled to hit the shelves here in New Zealand in late March, around which time we'll have a full review.
