Battle of Britain: Free Map for BF1942 Coming Soon

EANZ have sent us through an update on what's coming up for Battlefield 1942 players. First of all, the v1.4 patch was released today - see previous news article for details!
One thing that caught our eye is the announcement of a new free map coming soon, called The Battle of Britain. The map is due to be released later this month.
This won't be just a map though -- included with the free download is also new content. The German forces will have a new aircraft, the Junkers Ju88 fighter/bomber, one of the most versatile aircraft of WWII. And the British forces now have Radar-equipped dual Flak Cannons.
"This free download lets our players experience the most desperate hours in the history of Great Britain," reads EA's announcement. "The German objective will be to destroy important British buildings within a shelled out portion of London. The British objective, on the other hand, will be to keep these buildings intact until Germany's tickets run out or the time expires.
"The Germans will launch from airfields in France or Belgium and cross the English Channel on their way to attack London. Meanwhile, the British forces must engage the attacking Germans before all hell breaks loose."
The map will be large, roughly the same size as the El Alamein or Midway maps. The size is necessary to recreate a relatively large English Channel. "This will give the British AA gun/radar operator a chance to identify incoming aircraft while they are still over the water, and the pilots time to intercept these raids."
Battlefield 1942 players can also look forward to the Secret Weapons of WWII expansion pack later this year, which was a hit at E3, and for those who don't have Battlefield 1942 yet, a BF1942: Deluxe Edition will be made available around the same time as Secret Weapons, containing both the original BF1942 and the Road to Rome expansion pack, a Prima Strategy Guide, the Coral Sea and Aberdeen maps and the latest patch.
