Nvidia opens game development contest, publishing deal on offer
Posted by M (2 Nov 2006, 11:09 p.m. NZDT)

Graphics technology leader Nvidia and game creation software gurus The Game Creators announce they are teaming up for a competition that invites would-be developers worldwide to put their skills to the test.

The competition is split into two categories, one for FPS Creator and the other for DarkBASIC Professional. Entrants must create a one level first person shooter in FPS Creator or let their imagination run wild in DarkBASIC Professional – games will be judged on a number of criteria, including graphics, gameplay and sound. Full details are available here.

The FPS Creator winner will receive a top-spec PC and a publishing deal with Mastertronic, who will fund the development of the top entry into a 15-level game to be published and sold as part of their budget-priced range. Four runners-up will also win great Nvidia hardware prizes. Two DarkBASIC Professional winners will receive a complete PC system, with Nvidia SLI goodies up for grabs for second and third places. In addition, Nvidia will host the best entries on their website for visitors to play.

Darryl Still, Nvidia's Director of Content Management for Europe, the Middle East, Africa and India, commented: "We're delighted to be working with this unique product. The Game Creators' PC game creation software means it's not just big studios who can produce great games and amazing visual effects – any gaming enthusiast can turn their ideas into playable reality."

Rick Vanner, The Game Creators' Director of development, added: "We're very excited by this co-marketing deal with Nvidia – by teaming up with the world's best video card manufacturer we're able to reach many more creative individuals and as a result we expect to have hundreds of entries
